The spirit gives life to the person; the soul is the emotion, will, intellect, imagination, etc. When people go through traumas, tragedies, abuses and so forth, it affects the soul, and the soul can fragment. The human heart is related to the spirit. The spirit can break; that is not often as common as the soul.
