This book is written with the Gundog owner in mind. Retriever and Spaniel owners will find this a really helpful guide to raising a young dog, and many of the principles used will also be useful to HPR owners. The author has over 20 years experience with working gundogs and offers a sensible, easy to read guide to getting the best from your gundog. There are sections on training but this is not the main focus of the book. You are encouraged to try and understand the dog's point of view as you help him to mature into a good companion for the shooting field, competitions, or just as a member of the family. Only modern, acceptable methods are endorsed and canine psychology is shown to be very relevent when tapping into the natural instincts of these clever dogs. Avis has shared her observations and training tips with you while advising that the help of a professional trainer is invaluable. Use this book to support you through the early months and years with your new gundog and even if you are not new to dog training you will certainly find some new ideas and interesting thoughts here.
