Sāṅkhya Darśana is the oldest of the six philosophies of Bharat that follow the Vedas as their authority. The present edition of Sāṅkhya Sūtras comprises Sanskrit text, Roman Transliteration, and the first authentic English commentary. Sāṅkhya deals with the theoretical knowledge of embodiment (bondage) and disembodiment (liberation) of the soul.The study of this original text discards hypothetical theories claiming that Sāṅkhya does not believe in the existence of God. Readers and researchers will find that Sāṅkhya believes in God as the efficient cause of creation, but it does not believe in Him as the material cause, as is believed by most of neo-Vedāntists and neo-Sāṅkhyas. According to Sāṅkhya, prakṛti is the material cause.The readers will also discover that Sāṅkhya does not deal with the creation of the universe but with the creation of the physical bodies of the souls.To sum up, Sāṅkhya Darśana is the right key to understanding Vedānta, Upaniṣads, Vedas and other Śāstras. If one wants to delve deep into Brahma Sūtras and Upaniṣads, he/she should meticulously go through Sāṅkhya. Hope all readers will find this text most interesting given the present most authentic commentary in English in a simple and easily understandable language.
