My packed-to-the-ceiling Gratitude Bus guided this book to print.
Ernie Lee, my editor and publisher, took the wheel with his creativity and sharp eye for detail. He published two other books with me: we co-wrote Haiku Brothers, and I wrote my memoir, Street Talk.
We've been friends since high school days back in the 1960s. Ernie introduced me to haiku poems some years ago, and I've loved the challenge ever since. He's a published author and publishes under his Aim-Hi publishing house.
Nestled beside me on the bus was my wife, Debby. I read each poem to her daily, and her sensitive heart helped me figure out some changes now and again.
Other passengers include my readers and my friends who encouraged me with little notes or verbal praise.
If I have a poetic gift, it comes from my mother, who died when I was one year old. She loved to write poetry. I hold one of her typewritten poems in my heart.
Our Gratitude Bus just pulled into the publisher's parking lot.
I hope, dear reader, that your journey through these poems has brought you moments of gratitude and reflection, just as writing them has enriched me.
