Adam Wendover is not in a good mood when he walks out of a meeting in Florence, Colorado, and realizes he is going to have to drive back to Denver in a snowstorm, and the main interstate is a parking lot. Deciding that all-wheel drive and luck will give him better odds of getting home, he gambles on a winding mountain road instead. And then he promptly hits a large rock. Franklin "Rust" Scott has lived in a small mountain town his entire life. Abandoned by his mother to live with his gruff, mechanic grandfather, he enjoys running a repair shop and gas station along the highway. He's just getting ready to close the place down and go home to wait out the snow, when an expensive German import with bad suspension problems pulls into the parking lot. Neither of the two men were looking for romance, but close quarters can lead to unexpected things. As the snow melts, choices are made, a relationship is forged, and things begin to look up for both of them. It all seems so easy, at least until a character from Adam's past appears, determined to make him see reason and return to Boston with her.
