Maybe I should have started with the ex-porn stars, the naked photos, the murders, or with me, in my new work as a private investigator, being knocked unconscious with a blow to the back of the head-cold-cocked, as the tough guys call it. That last one happens about halfway through the story. I know who did it, and you will, too, and it certainly would be a more thrilling beginning-for you, though not for me. Even the memory of it makes my head hurt..."
