The dark tale of a talented but disturbed scientist in an era of social disintegration, set predominantly in Redcar and Whitby, North Yorkshire, with references to the period 1980-2016. What became Tristan Learoyd's only novel offers a dark depiction of social suffering and the grinding effects of neo-liberal economics in and on a local community. Consistently read since it's launch in early 2016, the literary work offers an explanation of the later Brexit vote and of the rise of European neo-fascism through careful depiction of real-life events. A dark, disturbing and thought provoking work that offers no escapism; romantic, poetic and yet desolate, "the Last of the Flying Finns" remains an isolated piece of literature that continues to haunt its readers.
