When forty-four-year old Atlanta software engineer Carter Frye unexpectedly loses his job, he falls into an episode of amnesia which lands him in the hospital. While sedated, Carter dreams intensively about his former employer, viewing scenes he doesn't understand but which he thinks might explain his abrupt dismissal. Carter's memory obligingly returns when nurse Mandy Lovecraft appears on duty in his hospital room. Unbeknownst to Carter, Mandy takes a personal interest in her charge, but the two lose contact after Carter's discharge anyway, much to Mandy's distress. Single and without family, Carter struggles alone with feelings of defeat, loss of self-esteem, and despair, quickly falling into suicidal thoughts. He forms a plan to end it all, but instead ends up uncannily guided to a metaphysical retreat center in nearby northeast Alabama where he discovers the power of belief. His discovery changes the course of his life and puts him right on track to fulfill the hopes and dreams of two hearts.
