Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a respiratory virus which results in symptoms similar to cold. This virus spreads through the drops coming from the nose and throat of an infected person, while sneezing and coughing. This virus can sustain on hard surfaces for many hours and on skin for a small duration of time. The symptoms of RSV include coughing, fever, sneezing, runny nose, wheezing and loss of appetite. Majority of the people infected from RSV recover within weeks, but it can take a severe form in the case of aged people and infants. There is no treatment for RSV, but its symptoms can be relieved by taking over the counter medicines like ibuprofen and acetaminophen. The symptoms can also be relieved by consuming enough fluids.
