This small book is essential reading for anyone wishing to understand the workings of the Cornish and Devon Mining industry. Cornish mining methods dominated the hard rock mining industry for centuries. Its miners and engineer's exported their technology world wide, to wherever tin or copper was pulled out from the ground. Alongside this technology often came another influence, the combination of financial, management and operational practices that gained the title of 'The Cornish System'. This book is based on a pamphlet produce in 1814 by one of the system's strongest supporters, John Taylor. Within its pages he clearly describes the system and many of the terms associated with its use. His words have been supplemented with additional material by John Manley
