The disorder related to the inflammatory conditions of the colon and small intestine is known as inflammatory bowel disease. It is usually diagnosed with the help of colonoscopy. Colonoscopy is an endoscopic examination in which a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera is attached on a flexible tube and is passed through the anus. It is used for examining the large bowel and the distant part of the small bowel. The two main types of inflammatory bowel disease are Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
