Reseña del libro "Dilemmas (en Inglés)"
A locked room, a compromised reputation, a fragment of testimony: across thirteen independent stories, ordinary evidence can conceal extraordinary danger. Each narrative confronts its characters with a moral dilemma in which loyalty, justice or survival may demand an unbearable choice. Concealed crimes, blackmail and murder drive these mystery short stories, yet the decisive struggle often lies between what can be proved and what fear, guilt or betrayal makes possible. From civilised interiors to remote landscapes, the settings repeatedly unsettle familiar assumptions. Hotels, homes and legal or military environments give way to ships, colonial communities and isolated country, while England forms one point in a wider international range. Investigations are assembled from documents, objects, testimony and telling inconsistencies; elsewhere, rational explanations contend with superstition or apparently supernatural forces. Delayed revelations and psychological shocks return earlier incidents to the reader in altered form, sometimes sharpened by dark humour. Crime, horror, espionage and maritime adventure meet without binding the collection to a single hero or mode. Two wartime sketches gathered under "War Notes" extend its concern with deception and divided loyalties into wartime Europe, while other stories turn on theft, kidnapping, escape and the pressure of concealed guilt. The variety of situations is held together by a persistent question: what remains of certainty when reputation, love or life depends upon a decision made under fear? This book was out of print for decades and is now republished by Alpha Editions. It has been restored for today's and future generations. This edition is not just a reprint - it's a collector's item and a cultural treasure. Read more
