English summary: For the first time ever, all twelve letters of the Upper Egyptian monastic patriarch Pachomius (287-347) has presented together in German. The notable encrypted writings, which include more than half these documents, have already been quite a puzzle beginning with Pachomius own confreres, Jerome, who translated them into Latin, the Jesuit Athanasius Kircher (1602-1680) and among scholars of the 20th century such as Emanuele Testa, Ilona Opelt, and Hans Quecke. In this volume, a potential solution is presented that is consistent and has proven itself to be reliable in its rendering of the texts. Thus, this volume offers both the translation of the texts and their potential meaning as well. Especially noticeable is the letter square cipher, which was found amongst the letters, which is important for the meaning of the letters as well as the approach developed here for their encryption. The message of Pachomius, which is expressed in all of the letters, is based on four simple, fundamental ideas: 1. A warning about earthly attitudes 2. Advice in times of hardship 3. That the love of God is found in the love of others 4. The fulfillment of these is considered in the light of eternity. With these ideas, Pachomius is anchored in the monastic theology of his time. His specific place as Father of Cenobitism, however is given in an especially characteristic way in points 3 and 4. German description: Erstmals werden hier alle zwolf Briefe des oberagyptischen Monchsvaters Pachom (287-347) auf Deutsch veroffentlicht. Die merkwurdige Geheimschrift, die mehr als die Halfte dieser Dokumente durchzieht, hat schon immer Kopfzerbrechen bereitet, angefangen bei Pachoms Mitbrudern und bei Hieronymus, der sie ins Lateinische ubersetzt hat, uber den Jesuiten Athanasius Kircher (1602-1680), bis hin zu Forschern des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts wie Emanuele Testa, Ilona Opelt und Hans Quecke. In diesem Buch wird ein Losungsvorschlag vorgelegt, der in sich konsistent ist und sich in der Durchfuhrung als tragfahig erweist. So tritt neben die sbersetzung der Briefe auch ihre Deutung. Besonders auffallend ist das Buch-stabenquadrat, das sich mitten unter den Briefen befindet, dessen Deutung sich aber gleich-falls an die fur die Briefe entwickelten Losungsansatze anschlieat. Die Botschaft Pachoms, die in allen Briefen zum Ausdruck kommt, stutzt sich auf vier einfache Grundgedanken: 1. Warnung vor irdischer Gesinnung, 2. In der Bedrangnis finden wir Rettung, 3. Gottes Gebot besteht in der Bruderliebe, 4. Diese gilt es zu erfullen angesichts der Ewigkeit. Mit diesen Gedanken ist Pachom verankert in der Monchstheologie seiner Zeit. Sein Spezifikum als Vater der Koinobiten tritt aber in dem 3. und 4. Grundgedanken in besonders charak-teristischer Weise hervor.
