Reseña del libro "CHRONICLE (en Inglés)"

CHRONICLE: Fossils of Progress is an ambitious, genre¿defying work that combines philosophical fiction, metaphysical reflection, and autoethnographical narrative into a single, sprawling chronicle of human life. From its opening meditation-"Rocks. Dust. Atoms. Ideas sprung from matter, pain emerges from rocks and we are here, somehow."-the book insists that observation and chronicling are not merely passive acts but the very forces that bring the world into being. Letizia structures the book as a series of interwoven flickers: scenes, conversations, and moments that rise up and extinguish across different realities. In one strand, college students Anthony, Virginia, Marissa, and Jack struggle through a philosophy course, debating empiricism, rationalism, and the existence of an outside world while football games, dining hall routines, and campus relationships unfold around them. Their banter about Locke, Berkeley, Hume, and The Matrix becomes a living exploration of how we know what we know-and whether anything exists beyond our perceptions. In another strand, Joseph navigates the pressures of parenting his daughters Rita and Laynie. Breakfast arguments over grades, sports practices, and the logistics of family life reveal the subtle rivalries and insecurities that shape childhood and adulthood alike. Laynie's frustration with "babyish stories" and standardized tests contrasts with Rita's apparent ease and achievement, exposing the different forms of intelligence and creativity that schools often overlook. Throughout the book, Letizia returns to a central claim: that human beings create devils, systems, and illusions through the act of observation. We chronicle not only what exists but also what does not yet exist, raising purposeless things to life and then competing within them. Progress, in this view, is not improvement but movement-aimless, stupid, and directionless, born of fear and ignorance as much as hope. Yet CHRONICLE is not nihilistic. It acknowledges that these flickers of consciousness, however temporary, are all we have. The book invites readers to participate actively, to "finish" the text in their own minds and conversations. Letizia explicitly rejects the idea of a single, fixed meaning, suggesting instead that meaning emerges through perception, dialogue, and imagination. Blending detailed scenes of daily life with philosophical commentary, CHRONICLE: Fossils of Progress will appeal to readers of literary fiction, metaphysical novels, and experimental narrative. It is a challenging, playful, and deeply reflective work that asks enduring questions: Was there a world before anyone existed to observe it? Do we need to chronicle rocks, atoms, and sadness to make them real? And what happens when all our flickers return to nothing?
