Abdulrazak Gurnah, nacido en Zanzíbar en 1948, es un novelista tanzano que escribe en inglés y reside en el Reino Unido desde finales de la década de 1960. Su obra se centra en temas como el colonialismo, el desplazamiento y la experiencia del refugiado. Entre sus novelas más destacadas se encuentran "Paraíso" (1994), "A orillas del mar" (2001) y "El desertor" (2005). En 2021, fue galardonado con el Premio Nobel de Literatura por su "penetración inflexible y compasiva de los efectos del colonialismo y el destino del refugiado".
