Reseña del libro "Breaking Through The Silence;: #Me(n)Too (en Inglés)"

Men are Survivors, too! Sexual assault is not strictly a female problem; one in six men are sexually assaulted in their lifetime, based on current reporting statistics. By that measure, 628,000,000 men will be assaulted in their lifetime. That number is jarring, and yet, most people still don't recognize this as a problem. The #MeToo movement is a phenomenal, eye-opening movement for warriors, but leaned mainly female. Many men felt left out of the #MeToo movement, and had created more of a divide in the survivor community than anticipated. And the limited number of resources available for men also leaves them in the dark to deal with their trauma. For those reasons, the number of men coming forward was unchanged - and remains the lowest reported crime. Unsupported by their community, many men felt even more isolated than before. Following stories of sexual assault in the eyes of twenty seven male survivors, we see the years of abuse, hardship, isolation, coping and finally, healing they've endured throughout their lives. Each in their own quest to find support, validation and resources to help start their healing journey's. From the voices of the storytellers are the heart-wrenching, experiences they've faced, and how each of them have overcome their trauma, rewrote their story, and found their strength. Through their eyes, you can see how drastically their lives changed following their abuse, and how they've triumphed and won their lives back by taking control of their body, mind, spirit and lives. Breaking Through the Silence; #Me(n)Too takes an introspective look at a society shaped by gender roles, self-expression and "masculinity" vs. "Femininity," and how that negatively impacts 628,000,000 people. Every warrior has a voice, and we want to inspire and encourage each warrior to feel compelled to begin their healing journey's as well. By finding and raising their voices to the atrocities that are happening to all genders, we can finally begin to heal as a community, and empower silenced survivors to find their individual voices as well. We want to raise awareness that this can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, age, heritage, socioeconomic status, religion, etc. Abuse does not discriminate. It can effect anyone. The warrior community is ready to welcome, empower, advocate for, and validate male survivors. It's our turn to listen. Male survivors face significantly more backlash, disbelief, and retaliation than any other warrior demographic. They receive significantly less support and have minimal resources to use, in addition to being societally conditioned to believe that they are not allowed to express sadness or emotions, without seeming effeminate. The tales in the book are all different. Although no two experiences will ever be exactly the same, there is comfort in the fact that someone can always relate to your experience. Finding a relatable story is very powerful. You'll recognize that there are millions of people to whom you can confide in, and will understand exactly how you feel. It unites us all and makes us stronger together. Once we realize that there are more people who have been traumatized like this, than people who are assaulting, it will take power from the abusers, and put it in the hands of the warriors. In that regard, some of these stories might be triggering. So, I urge you to take your time reading through this. And if you feel triggered or negatively effected, to self-care.
