Reseña del libro "The Recovery of Race in America (en Inglés)"
Aaron David Gresson calls for a sobering look at race relations in the United States, as he explores issues of loss and recovery in contemporary interracial life, thought and speech. He discusses how one can "live one's life in civility" in a culturally and ethnically diverse society. "The Recovery of Race in America" focuses on issues affecting both sides of the Black/white divide. Gresson looks at the white American loss of moral authority embodied in such notions as the "white male as victim of affirmative action". He discusses the African-American loss of the myth of racial homogeneity which has been expressed in the rise and non-resolution of debates concerning Black sexism, "who is Black?", and the Black conservative. He then goes on to illustrate how these concepts as a whole have played themselves out in our society through such events as George Bush's nomination of a self-avowed Black conservative judge, Clarence Thomas, to the Supreme Court. The book includes studies of African-American literature and interviews with Black women which focus on Black female, male and racial liberation issues, Gresson negotiates the fine line between personal needs and collective interest with much precision. "The Recovery of Race in America" is a major theoretical work on Black and White existence which should be required reading for anyone interested in understanding race at the close of the 20th century.
