(Cornawll-on-the-Hudson, 1892 - Nueva York, 1980) Escritora norteamericana. Después de ser educada privadamente por su padre y por su abuela, se instaló en Nueva York para estudiar arte. Rápidamente entró a formar parte de la vanguardia del Greenwich Village, donde conoció, entre otros, a Robert Frost, Eugene O'Neill, Mina Loy, Gertrude Stein y Marianne Moore. Alrededor de los años veinte, como casi todos los artistas y escritores norteamericanos, se trasladó a París. Durante los años de entreguerras frecuentó a las principales figuras del mundo del cine y de la literatura, desde Charles Chaplin y Marcel Duchamp hasta James Joyce, Ezra Pound, Alexis Carrel, Samuel Beckett o Ernest Hemingway.
