He became Bishop of Geneva at the age of thirty five and is honoured as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church. He became famous for his deep faith and his gentle approach to the religious divisions in his land resulting from the Protestant reformation. His writing on the perfections of the heart of Mary as the model of love for God influenced Jean Eudes to develop the devotions to the hearts of Jesus and Mary.
