Kip S. Thorne (nacido en 1940) es un físico teórico estadounidense especializado en relatividad general y astrofísica. Reconocido por su trabajo en agujeros negros y ondas gravitacionales, ha realizado importantes contribuciones científicas y divulgativas. Es coautor de Gravitation (1973) junto a Charles Misner y John Wheeler, un libro fundamental en el estudio de la relatividad.

En el ámbito de la divulgación científica, escribió Agujeros negros y tiempo curvo (1994) y La ciencia de Interstellar (2014), donde explora la física detrás de la película de Christopher Nolan. Su trabajo en este campo lo llevó a recibir el Premio Nobel de Física en 2017 por la detección de ondas gravitacionales con el experimento LIGO.
