(Maryland, Estados Unidos - 1971) Jeff Kinney quiso ser un dibujante de cómics desde pequeño, pero al terminar sus estudios, se percató de que no era fácil ganarse la vida como dibujante. Así, mientras esbozaba lo que sería el Diario de Greg, trabajó como diseñador en un periódico y como programador informático. Después de seis años de trabajo, se publicó en Funbrain.com. Hasta la fecha, la versión online del Diary of a Wimpy Kid tiene más de 80 millones de visitas. En 2006 se empezaron a publicar las historias de Greg en formato libro y rápidamente se colocaron en los primeros puestos de las listas de ventas. Actualmente se dedica al diseño y desarrolla juegos online y reside en Plainville (Massachussets), con su esposa, Julie, y sus dos hijos, Will y Grant. En 2009 Kinney fue nombrado por la revista Time uno de las personas más influyentes del mundo
