In England there are 8.2 million adults who participate in football and youth football has never been more popular. This is great news, but it also equates to a lot of injuries. In my experience as a podiatrist, young footballers are keen to understand their injuries and receive some basic advice. The information is intended purely as a guide to help identify the problem and to give you some knowledge to help combat it. In the majority of cases that is all that is needed, but in more serious instances, appropriate medical help should be sought and the book offers an insight as to when that would be necessary. The information is couched in layman’s terms for easier understanding. We look first of all at the feet making our way up the legs to the hip area and in each section the injuries / problems are in alphabetical order. There is also a section on stretching and strengthening of muscles which forms an important part of general fitness and is also important after injury and should commence during the rehabilitation period and continue after a return to training and matches.
