Kurt Maxwell is a seventh grader trying to fly under the radar at home and school. He's navigating the late 1980's without much of a support system. His know-it-all dad and hung-over mom provide erratic care for Kurt and his rebellious older sister, Randa. At school, Kurt's failing Date Math and feeling left behind as his peers move toward relationships. His old tom-boy pal, Sami, has sprouted breasts and colored her hair, and now causes Kurt's jeans to be too tight.
