Barbara Maitra lived in India for 15 years 5 of them within an extended family. There have been many stories written about India and the Raj. From her unique position between the two cultures it was a time of uncertainty for both, years after the departure of the British. It was a testing time which brings out the best and the worst in people based on what she witnessed. She observes it all with a discerning eye telling of love, ambition, lust and betrayal through the main characters. Their frailties ultimately decide their destinies as do ours.
