The second novel, The Infinite Sea, picks up almost immediately after the end of the The 5th Wave. Cassie, mourning the loss of Evan Walker who has been missing since they blew up the alien base, is holed up in an abandoned motel with young refugees from the Others' internment camp. Led by Zombie, the jock from Cassie's high school, the small group of children and teens must make a decision: wait for Evan, as he promised Cassie he would always find her, or head south for the winter. Although Cassie has never trusted her, Ringer volunteers to recon the area before they make a final decision.
