The central character of the novel is a dog med Buck. The story opens at a ranch in Santa Clara Valley, California, when Buck is stolen from his home and sold into service as a sled dog in Alaska.This classic book brings out the true spirit of the Gold Rush days at the turn of the last century and portrays the brutality, kindness, love, and folly that Jack London experienced during his time in the far north.The book has been adapted many times, most recently being the 2020 film starring Harrison Ford.
