Man has always created myths and legends to explain the unexplainable. From the earliest times powerful and fascinating tales have been used to confront and handle the irresistible forces at work in the world and in man himself. Undoubtly, they reflect the popular know ledge of this Colombian society with strong ancient roots, which stem from the Muisca or Chibcha civilization, pre-Colombian people whit the highest cultural development. The survival of the chibchas myths and legends are shown in the beliefs of the Colombian peasants of today the beliefs in ghosts and demons and their metamorphosis, the apparitions of the monje sin cabeza, the bola de fuego, the animas benditas, the god bufeo, the little ducks in the laguna ancantada and others are spell put with conviction and strength, and convey an expression of force in natural phenomena.
